what's new

We've had a great week of learning at LEMS!

Lots of indoor recess this week, due to the rainy weather.  We are hoping for a sunny week coming up so the students can play outside more!

Reading week is coming up- March 2-6. Please see our spirit days listed below so you can start looking for ideas. Remember, our hope is that spirit days will foster creativity in our children.  We don't want/expect families to spend money buying many items for spirit days. Instead, be creative with your child! What do you have at home that can help create the look?  Use Pinterest/Google to look up homemade ideas!  Have fun with it!

Beat the “Winter Slump”

Winter is here! While the colder days and early sunsets make it tempting to curl up on the couch with a tablet (or on our phones or watching TV), our bodies and brains still need to move to stay happy and healthy.

Did you know the CDC recommends that kids get 60 minutes of physical activity every single day? Movement doesn’t just build strong muscles; it helps you focus better in class and improves your mood.

“1:1 Rule”

To keep screen time in check, try the 1:1 Rule. For every 30 minutes spent on a screen (gaming, YouTube or scrolling), you owe yourself 30 minutes of active time.

Why it matters:

Limiting screen time, especially an hour before bed, helps your brain produce melatonin which helps you fall asleep. Better sleep means better grades and more energy for fun!

Other incredible ways that exercising helps our bodies:

  • Increases bone density
  • Increases muscle strength and improves posture
  • Strengthens the heart and lungs
  • Improves circulation and increases blood flow
  • Improves focus
  • Helps kids develop social skills

Stay warm, stay active, and stay healthy!

4/5 Science Concentration Lesson

Fourth‑ and fifth‑grade students conducted a hands‑on investigation into solution concentration by experimenting with a variety of powdered drink recipes.
